Frequently Asked Questions

No private bathrooms?

Nope not yet. This is a 30-year old authentic, Peruvian home in the country rather than a hostel. We keep the bathrooms clean and guest are respectful knowing that up to 10 people have to use 2 bathrooms. We do have a hot, hot shower with great pressure which is a real luxury in Peru. We have shelving, toothbrush cups as well as offer each guest a fresh towel with a hook so you don’t have to carry your things back and forth from your room to the bathroom.

Why are privates more?

We include tons of extra food, stocked house that feels like home. We have to change sheets more, clean, get new towels and tour short term travelers around. You still get an incredible deal that is nicer than most hostels on the main tourism path, but not the expensive luxury traveling that is available for folks traveling in their golden years on retirement.

Why do we give such amazing monthly deals?

We love building community. Spending some down time in the sacred valley is incredible. We’ve seen people write books, learn a new hobby, spend time hiking and meditating and get really healthy. It helps us keep rooms filled but more importantly, build relationships. We would love this to be your stop for a sabbatical or spiritual quest.

How does the Shared Pantry work?

Breakfast is included in the price of the room.  However we love breaking bread together and doing family dinners. Rather than everyone trying to buy little bits of food at higher prices, we offer a stocked pantry with dry-goods like lentils, split peas, kidney beans and chickpeas, fruit, veggies, different oils and spices and pretty much everything a chef needs.

To provide lunch and dinner, our cost for food is 10 soles a person. If guest choose to participate in cooking at the house we ask that they cover the cost with a small daily donation or the equivalent in buying groceries for the house so we can keep providing healthy social meals at a really low cost for budget travelers (3 full meals a day for only 3-4 USD!)

What is included in the free Breakfast?

Megan got tired of the same bread, butter and tea when she traveled through South America.  Casa de Tres Osos offers a make it yourself superfood, porridge bar including multiple kinds of oatmeal (even a gluten-free option) that you can top with nuts, dried fruit, maca, chia seed, flaxseed, coconut, and dark chocolate. Just add water.  As a bonus, we offer 2 eggs that you can cook the way you like, as well as bread, a selection of tea and Aeropress fresh local coffee. There is even fresh fruit, usually apples, maracuya and bananas that you can add to your oatmeal or eat alone. We don’t want anyone starting their day on bread alone!
